Save Money Tips

This is one of my favorite topics. Saving money is not much different than making money. I love saving money. Sometimes I feel like it is a

game, and I love playing it.

I would like to discuss saving money on your energy bill. I am sure that if you look at your monthly bills, your energy bill is one of the higher

ones. That that is an easy place to start saving! The other reason that I like this particular way of saving money is because you will be helping save the environment at the same time.

Your Hot Water Heater

Lets think about this. Your hot water heater probably sits there most of the day with scalding hot water in it that you do not even need! Not really a good system, but they have been like that for a long time! The very first thing you want to look at is the temperature. Most people have them set too high and they don’t even know it! I like 120 degrees. See what yours is set on. Sometimes they may not show numbers, but just lower it a little until you get it right. This will save you a lot of money with very little effort.

If your water heater does not have a jacket, consider getting one. It will pay for itself. It is simply insulation that wraps around your heater to keep the heat in. You may also want to wrap those pipes.

Timers can save you some money as well. Let’s say that the adults in your household work, and the children are in school. No one needs hot water all day, or at night when they are sleeping. You could set it to come on an hour before you need it, and then go off when you are finished. I doubt if you will notice a difference. The only problem may be if it is a weekend and you are home. You may have to turn it on during the day. Most timers have an over ride switch. A small inconvenience.

And if you go on vacation turn it off. Just make sure that you leave yourself a note. It probably would not be good to have to take a cold shower on your first morning back to work!

And if you have to replace your hot water heater consider one of the need energy efficient tankless hot water heaters. They are also known as “on demand”. That is because they make the hot water only when you want it. There is no storage system. They cost a little more up front, but they are worth it.
